Edouard Manet was one of the most prominent art figures of the 19th century. Born in a rich family, he had already been given a role in the society and his parents envisioned a life for him. Nevertheless, his art spirit made him reject his future and pursue his dream to create something new, innovative and modern. Soon enough, his innovative paintings caused great controversy and opened many doors to education and travelling. His paintings depicted a transition from Realism to Impressionism and paved the way for the modern art era. His closest friends were the Impressionists Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Alfred Sisley, Paul Cézanne and Camille Pissarro.
